Since 2005, Kate Orne’s focus has been on the victims of the little known sex-industry in Pakistan which exist under a blanket of denial, modesty, pretense and cultural oppression. She is the first photographer allowed inside to document madams, prostitutes and trafficking victims living stigmatized under local oppressive laws and cultural beliefs. Artist proceeds from the project support two schools for the children and a health care clinic.
SheedSociety is a non profit community-based organization (CBO) founded and run Ms Lubna Tayyab whom was born and raised in the community. It was established to address the lack of education, HIV/AIDS awareness and various social problems faced by the local community, its female sex workers and their children in particular. Currently SHEED continue implementing the HIV&AIDS/STI’s prevention project and in addition have implemented a child rights / protection awareness project. SHEED also run since April ‘05 its education program for children of sex workers whom until ’05 had no access to education. www.sheedsociety.org
